This series of work is collaged with Japanese ‘washi’ (paper). Washi is a natural fibre paper, produced from indigenous Japanese plants. Chiyogami (printed washi) is approximately 70% Kozo, is acid free and is renowned for the highly colourful designs, applied by silkscreen, woodblock or stencil. Chiyogami is incredibly strong and flexible due to the fact that the fibres position themselves at random, creating no grain. I select the chiyogami based on thematic concerns of colour and pattern.
