Western Red Cedar (Opus 72 #9) is part of the Toxic Series. Material, form and colour combine, as in chamber music, to present us with an intimate ensemble. Western red cedar, John Deere Yellow/Green and fluorescent orange harmonize to express a basic contemporary condition: that which we purport to respect as proud heritage is also that which we commonly disregard. This ensemble is a dialogue of parts comprising an 8' 6" bundle of milled red cedar (9 pieces 4x4) accompanied by a pine music stand with sheet music. The music contains red cedar trees in the score and is entitled "Toward A New Totemic". |
